Lake Sakakawea Only one word is needed to describe Lake Sakakawea country - big. From the massive two-mile long Garrison Dam near Riverdale to the end of Lake Sakakawea near Williston, this lake is nearly 200 miles long with a shoreline of countless bays and inlets that cover 1,600 miles. (This is more than the distance from North Dakota to the eastern coast!) Fishing tournaments are popular on the "big lake" as well as other lakes in the area, and camping is a family or individual hobby that many folks enjoy while visiting the area. Numerous campsites are available, offering rates that everyone can appreciate. Wolf's Trading Post, 1 mile north on Highway 1804, featuring beadwork, blankets, craft supplies, and much more, 701-627-3393 Reunion Bay - located on the Lewis & Clark trail 2 1/4 miles west, 7 miles south and 3 miles west of New Town.
